How Cheza4Afya Akili is designed to protect children who use it.
This describes the real, built safeguarding mechanism accurately, but should be reviewed alongside your organisation's formal child-protection policy and local mandatory-reporting obligations before publishing.
Contact local emergency services or a crisis line right away. Cheza4Afya Akili's safeguarding process is designed to identify and escalate concerns to trained staff, but it is not an emergency response service and should never be relied on as one.
1Built with safety in mind
Every part of Cheza4Afya Akili — the AI companion, games, and stories — is designed for a child audience. Conversations with our AI companion "Tumaini" are structured to be warm and age-appropriate, and are monitored for signs that a child may need extra support.
2How a concern is identified and handled
- If something in a check-in or conversation suggests a child may be struggling or at risk, it can be flagged for review — automatically or by a teacher.
- Only designated safeguarding officers and system administrators can open the full detail of a flagged case, including, where genuinely necessary, the underlying conversation. A school administrator can see that a case exists and its status for their own school, but not the private conversation itself.
- Every time a staff member opens a case or a conversation for review, that access is recorded — who, when, and why — so it can always be accounted for.
- Staff follow up with the appropriate parent, school, and — where needed — external services.
3Who can talk to whom
- A child's conversations with Tumaini are private from other children, and private from parents and teachers, except through the safeguarding process above.
- Peer support "Circles" are moderated, age-banded, and staffed by designated moderators — a child is never placed in an unsupervised space with unknown adults.
